Mississippi Silicon

Mississippi Silicon

In 2015, following a twenty-six-month construction effort, a new company sponsored by GPP, Mississippi Silicon LLC, began operations in northeast Mississippi.

Mississippi Silicon was formed by GPP and Rima Industrial S/A, a leading industrial company from Brazil, to produce silicon metal in a much more environmentally sustainable manner than other North American silicon metal producers. The $215 million Mississippi Silicon project is recognized as among the highest quality silicon metal producers in the world with customers in a wide range of industries, including the solar power industry.

In addition to investing its own capital in the project, GPP led the site search, negotiated the technology and power agreements, and structured and raised the capital necessary to build and operate Mississippi Silicon. As it frequently does on its projects, GPP continues to play an active role in the operations of the business.

Taking pages from their earlier project development success, GPP implemented an employee production program that led to Mississippi Silicon having the most productive workforce in the North American silicon metal industry as measured by annual production per employee.

GPP stays actively engaged in exploring ways to further distinguish Mississippi Silicon from other silicon metal producers in terms of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
